I like those songs.

And the only power metal bands I regularly listen to, are 3IOB, Iced Earth, Warmen, and Wintersun. Bodom has power metal influences, but for the most part, they're a fusion of like 4 or 5 different genres.


What Wiki doesn't realize is that folk metal =/= power metal.

Their studio output (or some of it, at least) is relatively decent. I honestly have no intention of seeing them live, so knowing that they can't always replicate their songs live doesn't bother me.

THe new bleeding through album is better then The Truth, but still a long Way from This is love, this is murderous.

and its heavier, with some brutal breakdowns.

People shouldn't compromise their music based on how it's recieved, unless their goal is to be popular (which I find dispicible). Also, I'm into music for music, not how many backflips a guy can do on stage. I'd rather see shoe gazing players who are amazing rather than an acrobatic rock band.

I listen to Iced Earth and Wintersun. If they count as power metal, then I guess I tolerate the genre. I've never considered them power metal, though.

Iced Earth is awesome!! I've liked them a LOT more than most power metal bands because they have an overall darker sound rather than the more uppity/happy sounds most other power metal bands seem to have.

Controversial opinion: I don't mind the "unblack metal" (aka: Christian black metal) that I've heard.

Probably wouldn't be controversial here, but I've seen a lot of BM fans who shit their pants at the idea of it... saying that opposition to Christianity is a key aspect of the genre, and that using black metal as a means to portray Christian messages is somehow wrong.


Wintersun is extreme power metal (basically just PM with harsh vocals).

Iced Earth is a hybrid of power and thrash... which'd explain why they sound "darker" than a lot of other PM bands.

Regardless, I love both bands. Had a chance to see IE with Barlow back in September, but didn't act on it. I swear to god, if Barlow leaves the band somehow, I am going to become an hero.

Christian black metal?

Bands like Antestor and Horde. It does exist.

I try my best to stay away from christian anything but that song is way to awesome not to download

See? Christian BM is awesome. Or at least, as awesome as standard BM.

The thing is black metal isn't about praising jesus or shit like that. I thought it was like the one place where I could get away from that stuff for a while but apparently not

You're right, that the whole premise of Black Metal basically goes against the idea of Christian BM. I dunno... I enjoy it though regardless.

Tbh, I don't listen to metal based on the lyrical matter. I just listen to it to get away from the OMG SO CHILL music that everybody else listens to.
