Continuing on the topic G&W's insta kill is totally random(1 out of 9 chance) plus you have to have your opponent be right next to you, not defending. G&W's move is not really comparable to items like Assist Trophies and Pokeballs that, no matter what will give the user an advantage.
Just a note: I agree that some items, like the Cracker Launcher do take some skill.
